Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) is an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Resource Development, Government of India. NVS runs a system of alternate schools for talented and gifted students of India called as Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs).

These schools were established to find the talented children from rural areas of the country and to provide them quality education so that they can compete without facing any disadvantages with their urban counterparts on an equal footing.

All the JNVs are co-educational and fully residential schools. These schools are affiliated to CBSE.

Class VI Admission Procedure

1 Age : Born between 01 – 05 – 2015 to 31 – 07 – 2017 (Both dates are inclusive)
2 Eligibility : Studying Class V & Only the bonafide resident candidates from the district concerned.
3 No of attempts : Only One
4 Mode of Exam : Off-line (OMR – based)
5 Medium of Q.P : Any language out of 21 languages.
6 Question Type : Multiple Choice Based (M.C.Q’s)
7 Reservation : OBC → 27% ; S.C → 15%; S.T → 7.5%
8 Subjects : Mental Ability, Arithmetic, & Language
9 Exam Duration : Two Hours and for Divyang students (differently abled students) 30 minutes extra.
10 Exam Date : Saturday, 28th November, 2026 
11 Negative Mark : No negative mark
12 Max.Marks for each correct Answer : 1.25 Marks
13 Last Date to apply online : 31st July, 2026.

Section I : Mental Ability Test (MAT) & Environmental Studies (EVS)

Mental Ability (20 Questions – 4 questions from each part)

Part – 1 Pattern Completion – Including Alphabetical & Number Pattern

Part – 2 Figure Series Completion

Part – 3 Geometrical Figure Completion – Triangle, Square; Circle

Part – 4 Mirror & Water Imaging

Part – 5 Embedded Figure

Environmental Studies (EVS)

Part – 1 The Natural World 

Transportation; Rivers; Mountains; Plants and Animals on land and water; Natural Disasters; Types of houses / shelters; Water Cycles etc.

Part – 2 The Human Body

Food and Nutrients, Hygiene and Cleanliness, Super Senses, Basic knowledge of Internal Systems – Digestive, Circulatory, Respiratory etc.

Part – 3 Science in Daily Life

Food preservation, Water and Air pollution, Conservation of water and soil etc.

Part – 4 Social Surroundings

Superlatives of India, States/Capitals, National symbols, Different landscapes, Festivals, Seasons, Forests, Crops, Clothes and fibres etc.

Section II  Arithmetic Test

1. Number and numeric system including ascending, descending, nearest, 10/100/1000 number names  and value
2. Four fundamental operations on whole number
3. Factors and multiples including their properties
4. Fractions and fundamental operations – addition and subtraction of like fraction and multiplication (unlike fraction and division of fractional numbers not included)
5. Measurement of length, mass, capacity, time, money and unit conversion etc.
6. Simplification of Numerical Expressions
7. Perimeter and area – perimeter of polygon, area of square rectangle and triangle (as a part of rectangle)
8. Types of angles and its simple applications (including directions and mapping)
9. Data analysis using bar diagram, table and pictograph.

Section III Language Test

  • The main purpose of this test is to assess reading comprehension of the candidates.
  • The test consists of four passages.
    • Each passage is followed by 5 questions.
    • Candidate shall read each passage carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Instructions

  • Only the candidates from the district concerned where the JNV has been opened are eligible to apply for admission.
  • A candidate appearing for the selection test must be studying in Class V.
  • A candidate claiming admission under rural quota must have studied and passed Classes III, IV & V in a school located in rural area only.
  • Candidate who has not been promoted and admitted to class – V before 31st July, 2026 is not eligible to apply.
  • No candidate is eligibleto appear in the selection test for the second time, under any circumstances.
  • At least 75% of the seats in a district will be filled by candidates selected from rural areas of the district and remaining seats will be filled from the urban areas of the district.
  • No separate reservation for transgender candidates and they included in Boys category for reservation purpose.
  • Reservation: OBC → 27% ; S.C → 15%; S.T → 7.5%
  • Only Blue / Black Ball Point is to be used to write on the OMR Sheet.
  • Use of pencil is strictly prohibited.
